Who else loved these games for the Super Nintendo and Gameboy systems?

I think I only had Donkey Kong Land 1 for the Gameboy, and had Donkey Kong Country 2 for the SNES. Though I now have all 3 Donkey Kong Country games for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.

I gotta say that DKC 2 was my favorite overall.

I recall playing one of these, quite a long time ago. I can't remember much about it, other than collecting bananas, but it certainly tidied me over for about 4 days.

One of these days, when I actually have money to spend, I'm going to have to get some of these classic games.

I used to love DK, until Jungle Beat or whatever it was called, then I just haven't cared for him since.

I had all 3 on my SNES. I gotta say I liked the 1st and 2nd one the best. However, the 3rd one was cool because it changed the game up a little bit. I also liked DK64. Its too bad they don't make DK games like they used too. DK Jungle Beat....

Yeah that's what I was saying. Jungle Beat ruined the character as a whole for me.

Donkey Kong Country games are very good at creating atmosphere for each stage. The characters blend well in the backgrounds and the music seals the mood. All of it is really well done into a slower-paced, more methodic platformer than what I've been raised with.

You go to the swamp stage, and it's a murky, desolate place. Your own characters are darkened in the environment. The music is quiet and simple even during the build-up. It _feels_ like a fucking swamp instead of a corridor with a swamp wallpaper.

You go to the underwater stage and the vastness of the ocean overtakes you. Coupled with the illogical but welcome fact that the Kongs have gills and never drown, you can really enjoy these levels.

You go to the stickerbush stage and the music is vapid and dreamy giving you a high-altitude dizzy feel. You almost forget these are some of the most frustrating stages.

To give DKC3 some love, here's one of my favourite tracks from that game. I think it lost a lot of the immersion from the first two (and Diddy), but it's still got it in some areas like the cliffs.

There's this entire engagement factor (i.e.: feel like I'm really there) I rarely find in games, but I love. Ico is another showcase of this.

Nintendo owes the first DKC that I started to like them.
